🕊️ The Hierarchy of Angels and Archangels
Angels and Archangels are God’s messengers and are known worldwide, independent of faith or culture. They appear in major religions such as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and many other religious belief systems tell stories of heavenly helpers. Even today, people often say, "You must have had a guardian angel!" However, this is mostly used as a simple figure of speech. Forgotten over the centuries and suppressed by the church, angels are currently experiencing a "resurrection."
📜 The Historical Order of Angels (Choirs)
In a document published in the 6th century, presumably by Dionysius the Areopagite, a system of order for angels was written down. This system is still the most widely recognized in the Western world today. In this text, three groups or spheres of angels are presented, each comprising three orders.
Definitions and Connections:
- Angel: A general term for all heavenly beings, but also specifically for the members closest to the physical realm (the lowest order).
- Archangel: Often used as a general term for all higher orders and is simultaneously the name for a categorically higher order.
- Angelic Choirs: A collective term for the entire world of angels, divided into nine groups. The church officially recognizes only three of these choirs.
The Hierarchy of Angelic Choirs (The 9 Orders)
Taken together, the entire angelic world is divided into nine groups (choirs). The following Archangels hold the highest rank for human concerns among the assigned angels and possess the power to bring about great changes. Nevertheless, they are listed as number eight in the following ranking:
- Seraphim
- Cherubim
- Thrones
- Dominions
- Virtues
- Powers
- Principalities
- Archangels
- Angels
